Analysis of Major Enviromental Factors and Growth Response of Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) as Affected by Fog System and Shadign in Summer Plastic House

Abstract
Among the tested cooling methods, shading with silver-coated PE film strips with fog system was the most effective in lowering plastic house air-temperatures by showing 4.7¡É decrease as compared to the outside air-temperature and 6.7¡É as compared to the air-temperatures inside the non-shaded PE house. The growth and yield of spinach were also significantly higher than those under other shadings. The major environmental factors affecting spinach yield in summer was found to be soil temperature followed by solar radiation, air temperature and humidity in that order. The coefficient of correlation determination (r©÷) between spinach yield and independent variables was 0.7526^(**) when calculated with 2 independent variables (soil temperature and solar radiation) and this was not much different from the r©÷ value calculated with all 4 parameters (r©÷=0.7613^(**)).
